Is he deaf?
Our very dear Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, had recently taken on questions from soldiers who were stationed in our ever-lengthening occupation of Iraq.
When asked by a soldier where their armor-plated tanks and other vehicles were, Rummy said, for the most part, toughen up. It isn't that bad, and you don't get the Army you want; you get the army you have:
"Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to uparmor our vehicles?" the soldier asked. Don's response: "As you know, you have to go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you want."
Now, before you all get on me about being un-patriotic, or anti-war, or not supporting out troops, please know I am from a military family. My mom was in the Air National Guard, and my brother and father are still in the ANG. I am proud of what they do for me, my family, my country and the world. However, I can support the troops and still disagree with the politics and/or policies of the Commander-in-Chief and all his little elves.
Back to what was said. Problem, is the Army we have should be the Army we want. We should be over joyed with the Army we have. Ecstatic. Et cetera, et cetera. Why aren't we?
Because we are spread too thin. We have troops based in countries since the end of World War Two... and the reasoning behind that was because they were apart of that Axis. Not a good reason. That threat was gone long ago, since German parliament has leaned left for decades. They've learned their lesson.
We have an all-volunteer Army. It should be the best damned Army in the world; which it is. But it should be much better. And the Army should not be so spread thin that we can't even properly outfit them.
Those are my thoughts. What are your's? Feel free to publicy post your comments on here
