Cutting the Checks on Greed
In case you haven't realized, if the title of one of my postings is blue-ish and not at all white, that means there is a link to the main story that I am referencing. Just so ya know.
Before I get to the story at hand, I was thinking about the phrase, Only Nixon can go to China. My History 151 professor would be proud of me. The idea basically was, that right-leaning presidents can do left-leaning things, while left-leaning presidents can do right-leaning things. Only Nixon (hard-right Republican) can go to China (now that the Soviet Union is gone, the target of all anti-Communists ires). That would stand then, that Democratic presidents would have better luck cutting taxes and reforming, say, welfare and Social Security, than Republican presidents could. That's how Clinton got away with it. And that's why Bush is demonizing himself.
He's cutting taxes on the wealthy. Think about it. If Clinton did it, we'd all be OK with it, including the Democrats. But now the Bush is giving to his own, we pretty much brand him a capitalist greedy pig. What he should be taking care of is Social Security reform and environmental issues. But he's screwing it up. I'm guessing all the folks on the Hard Right, Neo-Cons and Religious Right believe that the next president will be a Democrat. Or at least, a more liberal Republican than what we've got. And I'm inclined to believe that as well. Especially if Bush continues his imperalistic foreign policy and bases his domestic policy on "moral values."
Anyways! The Yahoo! news story of the day is about the Administration wanting to place limits on the liability of those who used asbestos, class action lawsuits and medical liability. Not all that surprising, considering the Cheney-attack-dog couldn't go 5 minutes without mentioning that Edwards is a trial lawyer. And therefore should burn in hell.
Let's try to think about that. If we weren't allowed to sue the crap out of people who used asbestos knowing it caused damage to human lives, but didn't do anything about it because they figured it would cost less to be less careful and pay off any lawsuits that came up. Talk about moral values. These are people who don't want you to touch stem cells because they might have been human life, even though they'll be thrown out anyways. They say it's OK to not give a rat's butt about human life... if it saves you some money.
Or what about when the aspirin accidentally had poison in it. It's not really their fault... because they were saving money by not double-checking their work. Or a bad doctor continues to make mistakes and goes from saving lives, to injuring lives, to finally just outright killing due to his negligence.
The Republicans believe in less government... except when it comes to the market of lawsuits. That should have the hell regulated out of it. A free market says that the good will survive. And that the bad will eventually be taken care of and kicked out of business. But the Bush Administration doesn't want you to be cared for or looked out for... it just wants its wealthy doctors (i.e. coffer donors) taken care of.
So you can afford health insurance, eh? Well I wouldn't want to go to a doctor knowing he has a free ticket to do what he wants and face no repercussions. How about you?
Forever yours,
Blue Box Citizen.
